A few months ago I was on a call with a survey operator in the Pacific Northwest. He runs eight aircraft, primarily DJI Matrice 300s, and has a Part 107 waiver for some corridor work near power infrastructure. An FAA field office had requested his flight documentation for a specific three-week window going back about four months. He had the raw data. He had SRT files on one laptop, CSV exports from the DJI FlightHub console on another, and a folder of handwritten preflight forms somewhere in a binder. Assembling that into something an auditor could read took him two full days.
That is exactly the problem NVdrones was built to solve.
What NVdrones Does
NVdrones is a compliance and records platform for civil commercial drone operations. It does three things: it ingests flight logs from your aircraft, it organizes that data into documentation that matches what FAA auditors and Part 107 compliance frameworks actually require, and it tracks airframe usage so you can schedule maintenance before a grounding event happens at the worst possible time.
The ingest layer handles the formats operators actually use. DJI SRT files from the aircraft's onboard SD card, DAT binary logs (for operators who pull them with DJI Assistant), and CSV exports from FlightHub or third-party flight planning tools all come in. We detect the format automatically and extract the fields that matter for compliance documentation: aircraft serial number, Remote ID broadcast data, pilot certificate number association, takeoff and landing coordinates, total flight time, and battery serial numbers where available.
The compliance layer organizes that extracted data against the documentation framework a Part 107 operation needs. That means per-mission records, per-pilot certificate records, Remote ID compliance documentation under 14 CFR Part 89, and a fleet-level maintenance log organized by airframe hours rather than calendar time. When an auditor asks for documentation, you generate a structured report in PDF format, not a pile of raw log files.
The maintenance layer reads cumulative airframe hours from flight logs and compares them against manufacturer service intervals. We do not currently predict failures from sensor telemetry, though that is on the roadmap. What we do now is surface the airframes that are within a service threshold so you can schedule the work before it grounding-forces a survey day.
Who This Is For
We built NVdrones for commercial operators running civil drone programs under Part 107. That is primarily utility inspection firms, mapping and survey companies, and inspection contractors who fly regularly and need consistent documentation across their fleet.
If you fly one aircraft on occasional jobs and keep your logbook by hand, NVdrones probably is not the right fit right now. The product gets more valuable as aircraft count goes up, as flight frequency increases, and as the documentation burden compounds across pilots and missions.
The operators we talk to most often run three to fifteen aircraft. They have more than one pilot on their roster, which means documentation can diverge unless someone is actively managing it. They fly on client contracts where a documentation failure could affect the business relationship, not just a regulatory interaction. And they have, at some point, faced the uncomfortable experience of trying to reconstruct documentation for a specific flight weeks or months after the fact.
What We Are Not Claiming
We want to be direct about what NVdrones is and is not at this stage.
We are not a flight planning application. We do not handle airspace authorization, LAANC integration, or preflight weather assessment. Other tools handle those layers well, and we see NVdrones as complementary to them, not a replacement. Our job starts after the flight is complete and the log is on the device.
We are not an FAA-approved documentation system in any formal sense. Part 107 does not require operators to use specific software. It requires them to maintain specific records. NVdrones helps you organize and produce those records. The regulatory responsibility remains with the remote pilot in command and the operating entity.
We are also not going to tell you that using NVdrones eliminates audit risk. Documentation quality is one factor in audit outcomes. Operational practices, certificate currency, waiver conditions, and the specifics of any incident involved in a review all matter. What we can do is make sure that when documentation is requested, you can produce it quickly and in a form that reflects well on how seriously you run your operation.
How We Got Here
NVdrones started in Los Angeles in 2025. We are independently funded, which means we build for our users rather than for a growth narrative. The founding team came from a combination of commercial drone operations work and data engineering. We had seen firsthand how operators handle documentation in practice, which is to say inconsistently and often reactively, and we thought there was a straightforward software problem to solve there.
The initial version was a basic log parser that produced a formatted PDF. Over the months since, we have added the fleet maintenance tracking layer, the Remote ID documentation module, and structured report formats that map to what auditors actually ask for. The product is still early. We ship updates frequently, and we are responsive when operators tell us something does not work the way they need it to.
What Is Next
The near-term roadmap has three threads. First, we are improving multi-pilot workflows, specifically how documentation gets attributed when multiple pilots share aircraft across a mixed fleet. Second, we are building out the maintenance signal layer, pulling motor temperature and vibration data from DAT logs to add predictive signals on top of the hour-tracking we already do. Third, we are working on an API for operators who want to push log data from their ground station software rather than uploading files manually.
